Lovell Stone Group took over the lease of Hartham Park Bath Stone underground quarry from Hanson Bath and Portland on 1st February 2016 and since then, the specialist team have been working hard to not only extract iconic Bath stone but also extend the existing quarry space into the old tunnels that have not been quarried for many years.
Since February 2016, the Hartham Park quarry team have cut over 300 meters of tunnels to gain access to what had been inaccessible stone reserves, ensuring the long-term supply of the iconic Hartham Park Bath stone. The uncovered area was one of the most productive before it was requisitioned by the MOD during the Second World War for the storage of munitions.
This has taken many months of meticulous planning, investment in state-of-the-art equipment and the dedication of the Hartham team who have made huge efforts to ensure the existing tunnels could be accessed as soon as possible.
This enables a greater source of stone for customers throughout the UK and forges the long-term future for Hartham Park.
Simon Hart, Managing Director of Lovell Stone Group said; “We are delighted to be able to finally access a larger area of the quarry and it’s a testament to the dedicated team we have in Corsham.
He continued; “Since taking over the lease on Hartham Park back in February, we have spent many months preparing for this momentous event and we are as committed as ever to making sure that Hartham Park underground quarry is able to supply quality bath stone for many years to come.
He concluded; “As we continue to develop the quarry, we are always mindful of local residents but feel a great deal of pride in employing local people who have all paid Hartham Park a great success for Lovell Stone Group”.
